The Point is becoming an Arts Council National Portfolio organisation in April 2015. It is owned and managed by Eastleigh Borough Council and became a theatre venue in 1996. It is known nationally for its commitment to presenting innovative contemporary performance and in bringing world-class dance and theatre to the South East of England. We have developed an invigorated and loyal contemporary dance and theatre audience and are known for our commitment to the support of artists.
We have a large creative learning team supports the programme with both a thriving youth theatre and youth dance companies that fill our studio and public spaces on a weekly basis. We run an extensive outreach programme with schools.
We have a community of hirers, from corporate to amateur groups who use our spaces for workshops, performances, classes and events that create a constant flow throughout the building.
The Point comprises of two auditoria (seating 318 and 50) a dance studio and a world class Creation Space with integrated living accommodation, which was the first of its kind to be built in the UK connected to a theatre building. In here we host performance making artists from all over the world for them to immerse themselves in making their work.
The Creation Space is a state of the art light filled rehearsal studio with accommodation attached, allowing artists 24 hour access to the rehearsal room. Four bedrooms house up to 11 artists, with the studio & ground floor bedroom being fully accessible.
