Essentials in Crowdfunding

This course explores the key skills needed to develop and launch a successful crowdfunding campaign. Crowdfunding can be an incredibly powerful tool for raising money and also connecting with your audiences and empowering them in new ways. However, to achieve success, organisations need to be equipped with a clear strategy and to effectively use crowdfunding tools that can support long-term engagement with audiences.

This course will be delivered virtually via Zoom in two 3-hour sessions, taking place on Thursday 20 November 2025 from 10am-1pm and Thursday 27 November 2025 from 10am-1pm. It is necessary to attend both sessions to complete the full training.

Who is this for?

This course is aimed at those with a specific project in mind which they’d like to support through crowdfunding, those who think they may want to run a crowdfunding campaign in future, and those interested in developing knowledge about how crowdfunding works.

You will learn:

  • How to fit a crowdfunding campaign into your organisation’s wider fundraising and marketing strategy
  • The different platforms and funding models available and how to choose
  • Ensuring your pre-launch leads to success
  • How to set a realistic fundraising target and avoid unexpected costs
  • How to reach the right audiences and develop them for the future
  • How to get creative with the rewards that you offer supporters

Trainer: Jo Breeze

Jo Breeze is a crowdfunding consultant, specialising in the arts and creative projects. She has helped creators raise hundreds of thousands of pounds since 2013, supporting their film-making, music, festivals, writing, arts projects, even political activism.

Testimonials from previous course participants

“There was just the right balance of teaching, thought-provoking exercises which you could (and wanted to) apply to your own situation and time for questions and talking around the issues. Everything the trainer said – including everything ‘off-script’ that she was asked – produced a nugget of useful wisdom. I was seriously impressed!”

Sherrell Perkin, Mandala Theatre Company

“Jo covered everything I could think of – and was very willing to go the extra mile in terms of adding detail at any point where it was requested. Jo was upbeat throughout both sessions – showing respect for each member of the group throughout.”

Martyn Swain, MOCo Ltd

“A real thorough training from start to finish in giving a real understanding in Crowdfunding. Well paced, friendly, encouraging and took time to listen. Knows her subject well. Very happy with all the training I have been on – it has meant I can now work on my own personal development and that of the organisation.”

Matt Dolman, Bromley House Library

“I really liked Jo. She knew her stuff and moved through the course at a good pace. I signed up a brand new colleague for this training too. No one has invested in her personal dev’t before and she really enjoyed the course. Jo Breeze was really approachable and knowledgeable about her field and actively delivering the type of projects she described. That’s the best kind of teacher. It was great that she stated clearly she is available to assist individual projects should we want to contact her directly as we develop a Crowdfunding scheme.”

Clare Purcell, Meadow Arts

“Really enjoyed the session, Jo was really engaging, which is especially hard online. I felt a lot of confidence in her knowledge.”

Phoebe Wall-Palmer, Night Time Economy Solutions

“Jo’s enthusiasm kept the session lively and it went forward at about the right pace.”

Graham Fairhurst, Lancashire Heritage CIC

“In a career of 35 years I have rarely attended a course I found so consistently pragmatic, interesting, informative and useful.”

“Very good value for money, especially as I paid for it from my own pocket! It massively exceeded my expectations in all ways.”
