Where are they now?
Melody Walker has 25 years’ experience in business development, fundraising and programming for a range of arts, social and heritage programmes for NGOs, the charitable and creative arts sectors. She is currently the Business Development Lead at East Street Art, and previously worked as fundraiser for Phoenix Dance Theatre, as a freelance development consultant for Leeds West Indian Carnival and grassroots arts charities and artists. Melody started her career working in the film, television and entertainment industries in the Caribbean, before transitioning into the not-for-profit sector to manage a women’s NGO which worked with UN agencies as funding and project partners (i.e. UNIFEM, UNESCO, UNICEF) spanning the Caribbean, Asia and North America. She has founded a number of community organisations and initiatives in Leeds, providing support with income generation, fundraising, capacity building, project development and digital engagement. Melody has written and published on a range of social, cultural and gender topics.
